The 2nd Society of Petroleum Engineers Kuwait Oil & Gas Show and Conference (KOGS 2015) attracted a record total of 5,241 attendees, marking a massive 53% increase over the inaugural 2013 edition.
Confirming KOGS’ position as the premier oil and gas event in Kuwait, strong attendance growth was matched by a 32% increase in exhibition size and 33% increase in number of conference papers.
KOGS 2015 was held under the patronage of the Prime Minister of Kuwait His Highness Sheikh Jaber Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, and was officially supported by the Kuwait Ministry of Oil and Kuwait Petroleum Corporation and subsidiaries.
The world class exhibition of oil and gas products and services spanned 14,000 square metres of space at Kuwait International Fair and showcased 212 exhibiting companies from 19 countries.
Principal exhibitors included Kuwait Petroleum Corporation and subsidiaries, ADNOC, BAPCO, Saudi Aramco and EQUATE. Complementing these regional giants were a host of international powerhouses including Amec Foster Wheeler, Baker Hughes, BP, GE Oil & Gas, Halliburton, ONGC, Schlumberger, Shell, Total and Weatherford amongst others, who exhibited alongside independent specialist suppliers and distributors from Kuwait and across the world. The exhibition also featured large national groups from France, Egypt and Malaysia.
His Excellency Dr. Ali Saleh Al-Omair, Kuwait’s Minister of Oil and Minister of State for the National Assembly performed the official exhibition ceremony on 12 October 2015, accompanied by an entourage of senior officials from Kuwait Petroleum Corporation and subsidiaries, government representatives, and oil and gas executives.
The parallel conference organised by the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) delivered a pace-setting programme featuring 191 papers and e-posters from 27 countries, representing 60 companies. The packed agenda at KOGS 2015 also included 4 industry panel sessions and 5 special sessions.
The conference opened in a special ceremony on 11 October 2015 at the Hilton Kuwait Resort. Welcome addresses were delivered by

Keynote speeches on the conference’s theme ‘Future Hydrocarbon Resources; Innovations, Technology and Opportunities’ followed, delivered by:

- Mohammad Al-Mutairi, Chief Executive Officer, Kuwait National Petroleum Company

Panel and special sessions over the subsequent 3 days at Kuwait International Fair were led by chief executive officers, managers and presidents of NOCs, IOCs and the service industry. Discussion topics included industry strategies in the face of unstable oil prices, the role of gas in the region, innovation, overcoming scarcity of resources, refining industry drivers, women’s networking, local content and the role of the banking sectors.
Three SPE training courses and a field trip for delegates were also held in conjunction with KOGS 2015, in addition to a 2-day programme of events aimed at the next generation of oil and gas professionals which offered high school students and teachers the opportunity to engage and gain valuable career advice.
